I know I've been neglecting my blog for the last few months. It's really no excuse but I've just been so busy. I guess that's a good thing, right?

Below are a few new paintings that I've done and working on many more new ones for the upcoming PMS show at Empire Seven Studios (January 2012)

This is a cat painting I did for a friend who loves cats (for her birthday).

Here is a painting I did for my sister's hubby, Vu. It's a portrait of their 2 sons.

Last September when I displayed my work at the Empire Seven Studios booth @ the Chalk Art Festival,

I met this lady who works at a dental office. She bought some of my individual tooth paintings.

Since then, she's commissioned me for more work and here's one of the latest for one of the

dentists who works in the office.

Earlier this month, my boyfriend and I went to a couple awesome shows in SF. One was at the Great American Music Hall ....we got to see Jonathan Richman and it was SO frickin awesome. With all the crap going on in this world, it was nice to see people so happy and full of energy.

Below are paintings (a few old but mostly new) I've been working on for 1) Luna Park Chalk Art Festival and 2) to load on to my new Etsy page (still under contruction).

I wanted to try to sell what I could at the Festival. What I have left, I will put on the Etsy site and create more paintings.

The Chalk Art Festival should be pretty cool. Carlos, Nancy and I will have a Empire Seven Studios booth and even do a chalk piece! Stop by to say hello and hang out for a little. Will be on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10am-4pm.

I'm starting a series of tooth paintings. I did two last week and sold them to a dental hygenist at the Street Market festival. Didn't even get a chance to document them but here is another one I did for a friend.

The doggies and I decided to stop by and visit Roan and Sean at their new store THE ARSENAL. Super cool art supply store owned by two great artists!

Below are a couple photos from my girl's baby shower. There was a committee who did the decor, dessert and candy bar. Fun stuff!

Margaret Kilgallen and crepes

Carlos and I took a day to visit the Margaret Kilgallen show in SF and then headed over to Oakland to eat crepes at Crepe A Go Go. The sauteed chicken is our taster's choice :)

It was the last day of the show and I'm so glad we made it out to see her amazing work. I felt so inspired and made me think of how I can push myself to do more than what I'm either comfortable with or thinking outside of my normal box.

For those who are not familiar with Margaret's work, here is a little I took from online (there's also a great documentary on PBS that shows her/Barry McGee's work):

Kilgallen was an avid reader and thinker, looking to Appalachian music, signage, letterpress printing, hobo train writing, and religious and decorative arts to inform her work. Her work demonstrates her respect for and engagement with craftsmanship and the stories of everyday peoples' lives. She was especially interested in "the evidence of the maker's hand." As she explained:

"I like things that are handmade and I like to see people's hand in the world, anywhere in the world; it doesn't matter to me where it is. And in my own work, I do everything by hand. I don't project or use anything mechanical, because even though I do spend a lot of time trying to perfect my line work and my hand, my hand will always be imperfect because it's human. And I think it's the part that's off that's interesting, that even if I'm doing really big letters and I spend a lot of time going over the line and over the line and trying to make it straight, I'll never be able to make it straight. From a distance it might look straight, but when you get close up, you can always see the line waver. And I think that's where the beauty is."

Antiqued twins

Earlier this month, my sister and I went to the Renegade Craft Faire to spend some "sister time". In my 37 years, I've had a lot of friends come and go. In the past couple years, I've come to the realization that it's not how many friends you have but the quality of friends in your life. My sister is my best friend.

Growing up, my parents made sure we knew the importance of family. That no matter what issues may arise, we must know that blood is thicker than water. As a typical older sister, I tormented my lil sister but somewhere between high school and college, we became best friends. Without my sister, a piece of me would be empty.

A lot of times, people think it's strange that we're SO close.... but to us it's strange if you're not. My sister has always been there for me, good or bad. What can I say, I'm a rich gal!

Below are some photos of an awesome place we discovered while we were at the Indie Market in SF. Didn't get the name of it but made sure I was added to their mailing list....was pretty inspiring. I've always thought it would be cool to own a huge warehouse and make it my home.

This was gross and sad at the same time. What's the point??

I love my sister. She's family and my best friend. We're twins with 5 years in between us. :)

Revs (on the left) was taken to the vet last weekend because he wasn't being his cheerful self. For some reason he hunched his back, his neck went stiff and he was literally frowning. It was on and off all week so I finally went to the vet. He really wasn't 100% sure what it could be. Revs will be on meds for a couple weeks and from there only time will tell. Prayin' and keeping my fingers crossed it's nothing serious.

Revs and Jeff playing. When my sister first adopted Jeffrey, Revs didn't care that much for him. It was almost like he was jealous since he wasn't the new one in the group. I think it was about a week or two before Revs showed his affection for Jeff. The two of them have the weirdest way to play with each other. They do this thing where their faces are touching side by side.

Here is a project my sister thought of. She saw this little bbq pit from Cost Plus and thought it would be cute to turn it into a planter with succulents for our mom. Since there were large holes for the bbq heat, we had to buy some mess material to lay down before we put soil...otherwise, the soil would've leaked to the bottom. Below is the final outcome and our mom LOVED it!

Exotic flower my sister and I saw in SF.

Crepe paper flowers I made for my mom's birthday dinner. I used to make these flowers with tissue paper but when I was up in the City, I found crepe paper and they work so much nicer!

This little liquor store on the east side has the best burgers! For $5 you can get a burger, fries and a can soda pop. I'm not sure if they use butter or lard to crisp up the inside of the buns but it's complete heaven!

It was my friend's birthday last weekend and I didn't really know what to get her. I couldn't go wrong with painting a portrait of her lil baby Sookie. I've never met her before but with the help of my sister's photos and some other references, I was able to pull it off. The challenge was that Sookie is a all black pom but I actually was able to make it work.

Went to 2 Buck Tuesdays at Kaleid Gallery last week. It was one of those SUPER hot summer nights. The space was even more hot and stuff but there was a lot of awesome work and great vibes from artists and supporters. We ran into our friend Jessica who did a couple music acts with her buddy (below). This was probably the highlight of my evening. I didn't realize she was so talented!

There's something visually pleasing to see old mailboxes side by side with their own characters.

Last week Carlos and I went to the art reception (curated by Kathryn Funk) held at Bill Gould's Art/Architecture bldg in South San Jose. Mingled, saw some great work, ate some tapas and saw this awesome dog chillin on his owner's shoulder. He seemed to not care but then again wonder if he just didn't want to fall off!

Flowers, tofu and sombreros!

Last weekend, went to Cost Plus and bought a couple new placemats! Love the design and matches my place lovely! Also my awesome sister bought me some fresh flowers from Trader Joes. They have such a great selection at super affordable prices. Had my sister and a few friends to catch up and have a light lunch.

If you've never had Korean food, now it the time to try something new! Here is a photo of panchan....side dishes that you eat with your rice and main courses. A group of us went to eat at Myung Dong Tofu Cabin in Santa Clara.

Growing up, I should've really take advantage of learning how to cook Korean food. It's not too late but it's definitely a learning process. My mom knows how to make a lot of things but my grandmother was traditional and did things the old school ways. These days you can easily go to the local Korean market and purchase things that are ready made.

Soon Tofu soup! Warms up your belly and gives you that spicy kick!

And saving the best for last! My two nephews, Jeff, Sabbath (pink/red hats) and lil son, Zeph (yellow hat). Orale vato! Wassa happenin!

Here's a couple new paintings I finished last night. A new cat character. Trying to incorporate new details as I go along. You might not be able to see but I added a small gold line along the borders. It's was just that small detail that made my pieces look complete. More to come as I have about 5 other ones I've been working on the same time.

Here are some beautiful flowers from my nephews for Mother's Day. I never really care for fresh-cut flowers but lately I've been obsessed with how pretty they are.

Sucks that I haven't been able to post much due to my computer being down right now. I downloaded all the photos I've had on my camera since the beginning of this year to my boyfriend's computer for the time being. I don't know where this year has gone so far but time is a flying by! Before we know it, it'll be summer. It's been so cold for sucha long time, I actually can't wait for the warm weather!

Well for now, I'll have to depend on the photos I take with my phone to update my blog. Will need to take my computer to the geek lab at the Apple store soon. Been avoiding it....worried how much it might cost me to fix whatever issue my computer is having.

Earlier this year, a group of us went to see Tommy Guerrero up in SF. Was such a sick show. Never saw him live and absolutely loved it!

In lieu of Valentine's Day, I put together a dinner for my girls. For the love of great friends! I became crafty and made personalized heart names and gave each girl a small vase with a paper flower I made.

This is what the end of a night of kareoke looks like when we've all had a bit too much to drink! Was a happy birthday for my buddy Jimmy!

Chihuahua love! This was Zephyr's birthday night. He turned 6 years young. Invited his auntie, uncle and cousins over for dinner.

Decided to get crafty again for my sister's birthday dinner back in February. Made her felt donuts to put as decor/centerpieces.

While I was in the felt mood, made my sister a t-bone steak and some bacon. Got some white paper to wrap the finished pieces and put a USA grade choice sticker. Just like fresh out of the meat shop.

Went to Oakland's huge yearly sale and it was so amazing. Bought me a vintage lamp for $6, dress for $4 and a winter coat for $6.

This artist is amazing! I remember seeing his stuff online and went I went to the ICA last Friday Friday, I was surprised to see his work! His name is Dalton Ghetti. He creates these miniature sculptures from the lead of pencils! Truely amazing!

What can I say, I love my nephews. This is Jeffrey (above)...the newest edition to the family (he joined last year). Funny. I can't see our lives without him. He's such a personality.

My sister and I are crazy. We have nothing but photos of the dogs in our phone. We love them so much and proud to show them off.

If it wasn't for Sabbath (below and named after Black Sabbath), we wouldn't have started this chihuahua craze. Before him, we were not that fond of smaller dogs. Growing up, we had golden retrievers in the family so anything smaller seemed weird.

My dad ALWAYS loved nothing but chihuahuas and I remember I used to tell him I didn't like that breed because they were too small. Enjoy the rest of the photos of my nephews!

Words cannot explain how much love I have for my 2 sons. They give me so much love and joy. Yes, I spoil them and they deserve every bit of it!

I wish I could upload photos from the bbq birthday shin dig I had over the weekend with my friends but my computer is down so I can't download any of my digital photos. My girl Mariana and I celebrated our birthday together last weekend. She turned the big 3-0 and I turned 37! Eek!

Anyhoo, here are some photos of dinner I did on the actual day of my birthday with my honey, sister and her husband. We finally went to check out Poor House Bistro and it was awesome! The food was great and there was open mic night so we got to listen to some super chill music!

Sandra and Crockett made a visit to E7S on Sunday to show some of the older and newer work. We met them a couple years ago just outside of SF's Renegade Craft Faire and saw the amazing talent in their collaborative pieces. Bought some of their work and I've been following them ever since. Last week Sandra sent out a email saying they were selling some of their work and I jumped on it!

Carlos bought me a buncha of their pieces for my upcoming birthday. Yipee!

Carlos and I will let you know when they'll showcase in San Jose! These guys are definitely someone to watch.

I love my mom. She's such a beautiful person inside and out. As cliche as it sounds, I admire her for everything she's done in her lifetime and continue to show my sister and I. She's a strong woman and because of her, my sister and I have grown up to be the great women we are now.

There's a awesome little place inside the Korean market for affordable and quick Korean food! The market is located off El Camino and Lawrence. I know it might sound gross to most people but I ordered the hot dish with rice, veggies and fish eggs. MMM!

My girlfriend Mariana and I share the same exact birthdate! To celebrate, we're having a joint fiesta birthday bbq at her house in a couple weeks. I bought these plates on sale from Party City and got some tissue paper to create papel picado (paper banners) and flowers...

Steal my heart

For those who don't know, this is my lil' Zephyr. I got him when he was about 6 months old (photo below) and now he's 6 years old! How time flys. He's a little warrior as he's been through some health issues in 2010. I was so terrified not knowing what could potentially happen. He's been off his meds since last Fall and so far doing great ("knock on wood").

I dread the thought of when he'll be gone one day. The best thing I can do is to continue to give him the best life he could ever have!

About 3 years ago, my boyfriend and I got Revs (to the left below). My sister, her husband and Sabbath (their dog) moved out so I wanted to get a brother for Zephyr. Revs is definitely a bundle of energy. We don't know his exact breed since he was rescued. Zephyr wasn't too sure what to make of a new edition to our home but it didn't take long before the two became best friends.

Below is a painting I did for my sister as a birthday gift. His name is Sabbath. Growing up my dad LOVED chihuahuas....my sister and I didn't really care for this breed but little did we know this would change. Sabbath is the first chihuahua that became a part of our family. It's because of him, the chihuahua family grew.

The newest edition to my sister and her husband's family is Jeffrey. Below is a second painting I did for my sis' birthday gift.

Been busy the last month and can't believe how time flies by.

Carlos and I have been trying to make new recipes.... lately he's been acting like Top Chef...here are some photos of gourmet dinners he had cooked for me by the time I got home from work....

Last Friday was two years since my dad passed away from COPD and emphysema. In a way,

I'm glad I had sucha busy day to keep my mind preoccupied.

I can't believe how time travels so quickly. I never could imagine this day and then it all happened

so fast that my sister and I didn't really have time to grasp anything. People say as time goes by, it gets easier. Well that's a load of crap. Two years later and the only thing that keeps me going is knowing that

my dad is now at peace and no longer needs to suffer.

I know he's always ride by my side and I catch myself from time to time having

my own conversations with him.

Dad, I love you and everything I accomplish in my life I know it's because of you and I thank you.

You're the best dad in the universe and I am who I am because of you.

It's been a month or two now that my sister and her husband adopted Jeffrey. He's so adorable! We think he's a chihuahua/corgi mix. He's so lucky....livin' the spoiled life!

Labor Day weekend was a chance for Carlos and I to check out Manik and his group at the Agenda. Never been to Reggae night (due to it being on Sundays) and I had sucha a great time!

Mmm! We made Braised Oxtail which cooked for 3 hours. Used my new Wolfgang Puck large pot!

Nancy, Bill and I took our mom to SFO last weekend. She's off to Korea for 3 weeks! It's only been 1 week and it seems like it's been a century! We miss her so much when she's not here. We've been spending more time with Bill to keep him company. Love them so much!

Succulents doing well and growing....if I had a yard, I'd have nothing but an assortment of these plants! So easy to take care of!

Couple weekends ago went to Capital Flea and found me some great composers

(Mozart, Beethoven and Bach). I knew in my mind I'd want to spray paint them gold!

I LOVE the Capital Flea! So many people think the Berryessa flea is so great but that's NOT

a flea market anymore since they took away people selling their "junk"

It's tradition for Carlos and I to get salami and baguette when we go to the flea from a awesome vietnamese man! I don't like beer but I even had a sip with my "sandwich"

I attempted to make my own version of Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza and the results were more than what was expected! I even bought the sauce from Safeway! Operation was a success!

My girl, Mariana shares the same special birthday as I do, April 26th! We went to Opas in Los Gatos with a bunch of chicks to celebrate her day. I had beef kabobs and fries with tons of feta cheese!

Sorry I've been out of touch for sooo long! Ever since I've been temping for this semiconductor job, I've been too tired to post anything to my blog.

As for my art...I've taken a break since the Black and Brown show...thank you sooo much for those who came out to the show and especially to those who bought one of my paintings! I sold a total of 9 paintings! yeahhh!

Banana pancakes my awesome friend, Alysa, made me Sunday morning...Carlos and I have a Halloween party Saturday night and with the time change, my clock was all off. I woke up the next day at 1pm with a major headache but Alysa fixed that for me real quick!

Sister day in San Francisco with Nancy...love how the sidewalks of SF are glittery...can't tell in this photo though... we ate, shopped and most importantly, went to the SF MOMA to see the Richard Avedon photography show...if you haven't seen it, you MUST before it comes down at the end of November...I almost cried!

Our friends Sean Boyles and Roan Victor, created a Art Nights at the studios 2x a week. We loved the idea or artists and art lovers coming together for a night of creating and networking.

So here's some photos from last Saturday's art show: Roots, the Ahn Sisters. My sister and I worked effortlessly to get this show done in one month. Through endless late nights and fighting the flu, we made it! I sold 9 paintings and my sister sold 5 drawings! Thanks everyone for your support!

The Louis Vuitton clutch you see me holding was my treat to myself for all the hard work. Got it on ebay and it's totally authentic.

I think I'm gonna put my paint brush down now and pick up my poor neglected camera. First and foremost, I am still a photographer. Painting was something I wanted to explore and totally love. But, my darkroom has turned into a storage room and my camera is collecting dust.

I just realized I'm in most of these photos...I got camera happy that night.

This Thursday will be one year from when my dad passed away due to years of dealing with emphysema. My dad was a great man that taught me everything I know today...especially to work hard, cherish my family and to have great pride for my Korean background. I never wanted to imagine what it would be like without him in my life. Last year, everything happened so fast, my sister and I didn't have time to really grasp what was going on. 'Til this day, we feel like he's gonna call us and let us know he's back from a long vacation.

Last year, we laid his ashes in the Southern California's part of the Pacific Ocean, where my grandmother is. My sister and I live in Northern California and will be planning to go to Santa Cruz, where we can visit my dad...the way we see it, he's anywhere within the Pacific Ocean for us to visit and it will be nice to have some time with him.

I just finished my small series of walruses. I can't tell you how much I LOVE these wood panels I'm using for my paintings. I buy them all at Michaels for literally dollars and they come in all sizes! I can't wait for the upcoming show my sister and I will have. It's going to be nothing but drawings and paintings of animals...our dedication to all wild and domestic creatures of our planet!

Here's my late night work station in my living room, as I watch tv. I usually will paint there or upstairs in the loft, where the rest of my stuff is.

I just finished a couple of "series" I started last week. Hamsters, inspired by the movie BOLT and some Rhinos. These will be put into the upcoming show I'll be having with my lovely sis at Black & Brown. The opening is Saturday, Oct. 3rd....look out for the flyer. Soon to be announced!

p.s. The whale painting is just something I felt like doing and the bird you see to the upper left is also another series I'm working on....not yet complete.

Bike riding....part 2

A couple weeks ago, Carlos, Alysa and I rode our bikes to Alum Rock, hiked up to Eagle Rock and rode back. Talk about kicking my ass! I was so tired from all the uphill riding and hiking I did but in the end, it felt so great!

Here's the actual Eagle Rock I climbed to get a view of San Jose. Pretty cool but once I got up top, I realized that I'm a little scared of heights!

On the way back, Carlos ran into a crazy nail that gave him a pretty bad flat! We ended the adventure with a awesome bowl of pho from Tofu Com Chay...YUM!

Today was a very physical day! My sister and I got up at 5am to go running, I came back home and then got up again to go bike riding all the way to Los Gatos with my honey, Carlos and my friend Alysa. I don't think I've ever rode so far! At one point I felt like turning back around but I kept going....didn't want to give up. There were a couple uphills but I didn't want to get off my bike because then I would feel like I wasn't trying my best. I put my bike into first gear and rode slowly until I got to the top. Carlos even came back around to give me a helping hand by pushing me a little...

Once I made it past the uphill, I knew I made it past the hardest part. I'm so proud of myself! Didn't have a chance to take any pics...next time!

Body massage and Korean food!

The other day, my mom and I went to a Chinese massage place that whipped my body back into shape! So awesome! It's called Foot City Reflexology. It's about $15 for one hour; M-F 10am-2pm. After those hours and weekends, I believe it's about $20 for one hour. Address is 1622 East Capital Express Way, San Jose, CA.

That same night, my sister, her husband and our friend Jimmy went to have Korean BBQ off the El Camino. It was such the thing I needed! We ordered spicy pork and short rib to bbq on the table grill. Also ordered some bean paste soup and tofu soup!

Trip to LA

A few weeks ago, my mom, sis and I went to LA for the weekend. The purpose of this trip was to visit my father's and grandmother's burial site. We spread their ashes in the Pacific Ocean and wanted to pay our respects by giving some flowers to them.

It still seems like my dad will call us any moment....as if he was coming back from a long vacation. People say as time passes, dealing with family loss gets easier. It doesn't. It gets harder since I miss them that much more.

We were able to eat some awesome Korean food while in LA. Nothing like a great Korean lunch followed by red bean dessert! Yum!

So last Friday, I was laid off due to the economic crisis. As much of this on the news, I never thought I would be a part of those statistics. Better yet, this news came to me the day before my birthday weekend!

Anyways, I've been hanging in there with the love and support of my family, friends, Carlos, Zephyr and Revs! Yesterday, I felt like being extra creative so I spend most of the day in the studios painting this little bird. Sometimes I think about how life would be so stress free flying free from all these attachments in life.

Nancy and I talked about hustling our talent through art. Thus, we created thephotologists.blogspot.com. It's still under construction but LOOK OUT WORLD....here we come!

Carlos and I went to A.P. Stumps and had the best dinner in a long time. Not only was the food great but the service was exceptional! Our server's name was Michael...he was the best and made our experience just that special! We can't wait to dine there again! My sister and I went to check out the YSL show yesterday at the De Young Museum. Didn't know exactly what to expect but once we walked into the darkened room, we were like little girls in the hello kitty store! To see a retrospective of YSL's work literally a couple feet away from us was such an experience! Such detail! Couture! Inspirational!

Downstairs was a cool collection of Andy Warhol's pieces as well as his own collection of memorabilia.

The show will be coming down soon so I highly suggest to take a trip up to SF. It runs until April 5th.

It was a great experience to be a part of this quaint photography group show at Santa Clara University's Art Dept. gallery. I had the opportunity to show side by side with David Pace, Anton Orlov and Marie Jose-Durquet. Amongst the digital world, we are photographers who still produce work in the darkroom.
